DEPENDENCY ASSESSMENT TOOL

Our Dependency Assessment Tool: Ensuring Transparent and Fair Pricing

At AnsMed Home Care, we believe that every client deserves care that is both appropriate to their needs and fairly priced. To achieve this, we use a structured Dependency Assessment Tool that helps us determine the level of support each client requires.

This approach ensures that care is not only personalized but also transparent, consistent, and equitable for all clients.

1. What is the Dependency Assessment Tool?

The Dependency Assessment Tool is a simple, structured system used to evaluate how much assistance a client needs with daily activities.

It looks at key areas of everyday living, such as:

  • Bathing and personal hygiene
  • Feeding and nutrition
  • Toileting and continence
  • Mobility and movement
  • Lifting and repositioning
  • Night monitoring needs
  • Household support related to the client

Each area is scored based on the level of assistance required, and the total score determines the client’s overall level of dependency.

2. How the Assessment Works

Each activity is rated on a scale, typically ranging from independence to full assistance. For example:

  • A client who performs a task independently scores lower
  • A client who requires partial support scores moderately
  • A client who depends fully on a caregiver scores higher

The total score provides a clear picture of how much care the client needs on a daily basis.

3. Levels of Dependency

Based on the total score, clients are grouped into different levels of dependency:

  • Low Dependency: Minimal assistance required
  • Moderate Dependency: Regular assistance needed for several activities
  • High or Total Dependency: Significant or full support required throughout the day

This classification helps ensure that the level of care provided matches the client’s actual needs.

4. How It Ensures Fair Pricing

One of the key benefits of the Dependency Assessment Tool is that it promotes fair and transparent pricing.

a. Pay for the Level of Care You Need

Clients are charged based on the actual level of support required. Those who need minimal assistance are not overcharged, while those requiring more intensive care receive the appropriate level of service.

b. Clear and Objective System

Because the assessment is structured and standardized, pricing decisions are not arbitrary. Clients and families can clearly understand how the cost of care is determined.

c. Transparency for Families

Families can see how each aspect of care contributes to the overall assessment. This builds trust and ensures there are no hidden or unclear charges.

d. Fair Compensation for Caregivers

The tool also ensures that caregivers are fairly compensated based on the complexity and intensity of the care they provide, which supports better service delivery.

5. Supporting Better Care Planning

Beyond pricing, the assessment tool helps AnsMed deliver better care by:

  • Matching clients with the most suitable caregivers
  • Determining whether one or more caregivers are needed
  • Identifying areas where additional support (e.g., physiotherapy or equipment) may be beneficial
  • Allowing care plans to be adjusted as client needs change

6. Regular Review and Flexibility

Care needs can change over time. That is why the dependency assessment is not a one-time process.

AnsMed may review and update the assessment periodically to reflect:

  • Improvement in the client’s condition
  • Increased care needs
  • Changes in mobility or health status

This ensures that both care and pricing remain accurate and fair.

7. Building Trust Through Transparency

At AnsMed, we understand that trust is essential in home care. By using a clear and structured Dependency Assessment Tool, we remove guesswork and provide clients with confidence in both the care they receive and the cost they pay.

Fair Care Starts with Fair Assessment

Our goal is simple: to provide the right care at the right price. The Dependency Assessment Tool helps us achieve this by aligning care needs with service delivery in a transparent and professional manner.
