AnsMed Becomes First to Introduce Pension Scheme for Caregivers in Ghana

AnsMed Launches Ghana’s First Pension Scheme for Caregivers
In a historic announcement during AnsMed’s 9th Anniversary and 4th Graduation Ceremony held on 3rd May 2025 at Oak City International College, Adenta, the Managing Director, Prince Assandoh-Mensah, declared the official launch of a comprehensive pension scheme for caregivers — the first of its kind in Ghana.
Effective 1st June 2025, all contract and permanent staff caregivers of AnsMed Home Care Ltd will be registered under the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) and also enrolled onto Tier 2 pension contributions.
This move solidifies AnsMed’s position as a trailblazer in professionalizing caregiving while safeguarding the long-term financial security of its workforce.
“For too long, caregivers have worked tirelessly without a secure future. Today, we change that narrative,” said Mr. Assandoh-Mensah during his address on the theme “Transforming Care Through Leadership: A New Era for Aged Care in Ghana.”
“We are proud to be the first care agency in Ghana to take this bold step — because caregivers deserve dignity not just today, but in retirement too.”
A Commitment to Caregiver Welfare
The pension scheme covers:
-
SSNIT Contributions – The official social security program in Ghana for old age, disability, and survivors’ benefits.
-
Tier 2 Pension – A mandatory defined-contribution scheme managed privately, offering a second layer of retirement benefits.
This intervention ensures that caregivers working with AnsMed can now build a pensionable career, helping to boost staff morale, promote retention, and elevate the caregiving profession.
Raising the Bar in Home Care
AnsMed’s decision marks a major milestone in labor reforms within Ghana’s caregiving sector — a field often plagued by informal work arrangements and lack of benefits. The company continues to champion industry-wide change, positioning caregiving as a viable, respected, and sustainable career path.
This announcement comes on the heels of another first — the launch of Ghana’s first structured career pathway for caregivers, also unveiled at the anniversary celebration.
